Art vs Design ?

    Art versus Design? Since I am starting to take this course, I really don’t know there are actually have a clear distance between art and design. I am always thinking art is design and design is art. Maybe in my course usually have to learning about art works combined or link with design work, that why it will make me think of art and design is together, cant separated. Until I finish this theory class I just realize actually art and design was two differences thing.

    Now what I understand from art is, art is something wonderful, creative, freedom to create anything based on color, shape, angle, blur, imagination and etc. Art is freedom, art work is usually create by artist and artist will used their feeling to create an art work, it is thinking out of the box, create something with their own rules. It is true! For example, if there has a art work hang on the wall, but we will not really understand the meaning of that art work without any description or tittle. Artist usually work with their own feeling, then artist will ask you “ Does it feel good” ? For me, learning art is need talent, if a person with art sense, they will never know what is art and they will ask what is this, what is the function of this thing, how it can be use? 

    For design, it was totally a difference thing with art! Design is to solve problem.

It solve the problem of “how?”, “how my product can be best seller”, “ how to make this area look more nicer?”, “ how can I put so much thing in this small area?”. Then, you will need a designer to help you solves this kind of problem. Design basically involved into business. Designer have to solve customer’s problem. To design the outlook of product to make the product more attractive to attract attraction of customers. Designer usually already know what they or client want and they have to do is to understand the product then to design the product and make that product attractive!

     Art is feeling, design is solve problem. How if combined feeling and problem solving together? Art nouveau moment have few building example to show the result. Nowadays the art nouveau design is not suitable for today building it was too luxury, heavy, wastage and not recycle! But we can use the recycle material to create an art design into ours interior or exterior. For example, use of useless tile to create art texture on floor, wall or garden table. Use of recycle material to design a hanger or book shelves which contain art feel will make interior space more interesting compare than normal cabinet and hanger. At least it will make me feel more good ! So, a suitable art concept is can be add into design work! But designer should make a balance between each other.
